Pokemon.com have updated their Trainer Store with a bunch of new clothes, accessories and backgrounds you can purchase and use to edit your Trainer. Members of the site are able to create a mini profile with their own custom trainer, favourite Pokemon and game scores. Performing well in the various flash based games will earn you more Trainer Tokens which can be spent at the Trainer Store.

A leaked page from next weeks issue of CoroCoro has revealed the silhouette of a brand new 5th generation Pokemon which looks similar to Lucario, a possible evolution? This Pokemon will be the star of the 13th Pokemon movie released in Japan later this year. Pokemon Sunday also showed the silhouette earlier today and stated that more information will be revealed on February 21st.

Finally the image below shows the Pokemon games released so far and it points to one square with a question mark on it, does this mean there will only be one new game instead of two versions? Only time will tell.

With the evident release of possibly the biggest Pokemon games in history looming ever closer, what better way to pass the time then have a look at our five favourite features...

5. Pokemon Follow You!
Back in the day when Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver were first announced, all the Japanese screenshots and videos showed the three starters and their evolutions following you around the region of Johto. We were all quite impressed with this feature since it brought back memories of the classic Pokemon Yellow Version. As time passed translations and eventual screenshots from Japanese magazines CoroCoro and Famitsu revealed that any Pokemon from Bulbasaur to Arceus could walk along with you outside of their PokeBall. What better way to journey around a new yet old world then with your favourite Pokemon by your side, one that has trained very hard to help you defeat Gym Leaders, Trainers and rivals alike. To choose which Pokemon follows you is a simple task, whoever is first in your party will be the Pokemon you'll find next to you. When entering a battle, because the Pokemon first in your team is already out of their PokeBall, they simply jump into the battle whenever one is initiated. You can interact with your Pokemon to see how it is feeling, like Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow, your Pokemon wont like you all that much when you first capture it but it'll eventually develop a close bond the more you walk and battle together. Your Pokemon may also find items and accessories along your journey, just as they would in Amity Square back in Sinnoh. Finally there are secret in-game events that are activated when a certain Pokemon is following you, if Pikachu Coloured Pichu is following you in Ilex Forest you'll encounter an exclusive Spiky-Eared Pichu and if an Arceus if following you in the Ruins of Alph, a man will talk to you and tell you about the secret Sinjoh Ruins.

4. Touch Screen Menu!
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are so much more intertwined with the DS Touch Screen then Diamond, Pearl and Platinum ever were. Now that the gimmicky Poketch is gone, the Touch Screen is freed up for more useful features. First up you can access the game menu on the Touch Screen or still press X, which ever you prefer, you can also assign two key items to it so with a simple touch you can be on your bike or fishing in the lake. Your Running Shoes will also appear as a button on the Touch Screen so once pressed you wont need to hold down the B button to run fast any more, you can even press the A button via the Touch Screen so those who prefer the stylus can use it and never have to press a button again (besides the D-Pad).

The PokeDex and PC box are also touch screen operated, with the PokeDex you move through all the Pokemon you've seen and captured on the Touch Screen and by clicking on one their details will appear on the top screen. With the PC box it is simply a matter of dragging and dropping your PC Pokemon into your party and visa versa which is much more simple then the previous method, you can scroll through the various boxes and even check stats all with the stylus.

3. Reminiscent!
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are going to bring back so many old memories to fans who've played the originals. Not only will you go through the same locations, Gym Leaders and challenges faced in the classics but you'll also hear all the delightful tunes that you probably don't remember now, but surely will once you hear them. The best part is everything has been updated offering a totally new experience, we'll get to see and hear Johto like never before with updated visuals and in-game soundtracks which is only possible on the Nintendo DS.

2. PokeWalker!
Finally we can take a Pokemon with us no matter where we go, by loading a Pokemon onto the PokeWalker and going about our daily activities, the Pokemon will gain experience, find hidden items, grow more fond of you and even encounter wild Pokemon all without the DS system. Just like the classic Pokemon Pikachu Colour which connected with Pokemon Gold and Silver, the PokeWalker does the same and will play a vital part in the games for those who use it often. You'll encoutner rare Pokemon with moves they shouldn't know, very useful items, you'll be able to level up those stronger Pokemon more easily and even find wild Pokemon you cannot capture in-game, for the full details check our PokeWalker Guide here.

1. Super Long Gameplay!
Our favourite thing about Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver is experiencing both Johto and Kanto all over again. The last time we saw Kanto was in FireRed and LeafGreen so we will get to see Kanto in a totally new way with the improved visuals offered on the DS. Having two regions also makes the game twice as long, there is now two worlds to explore, double the Gym Leaders to defeat and hundreds of Pokemon available giving HeartGold and SoulSilver the longest playtime compared to any other Pokemon RPG. Not to mention the Battle Frontier, Wi-Fi Plaza and Global Trade Station all imported from Platinum along with the new Pokeathlon tournament there is just so much to do and I'm sure these games will tide up over for years to come.

Serebii.net has posted up all the English names for the various characters, items and locations in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the major ones are listed below.

Gold is known as Ethan and Kotone as mentioned in our last post is called Lyra. The Pokethlon is now called the Pokeathlon and finally the Shinto ruins where the Arceus event takes place is now called the Sinjoh Ruins, like it's Japanese name it is a mixture of Sinnoh and Johto.

Finally when Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver were rated by the Australian Classification Board, there was no mention of gambling references (due to the Game Corner) unlike every other Pokemon game released. This has left many people wondering if the slot machines were taken out of the games as it was in the German version of Pokemon Platinum last year and the answer is yes. Serebii has revealed that the gambling mini-games have been replaced with a Voltorb Flip game in all versions of HeartGold and SoulSilver outside of Japan. Players flip cards and are awarded points and bonuses however flip over a Voltorb and you lose, the more points you get, the more Coins you'll receive.

Well I'm back from my holiday and you can now expect the latest news to be posted as quickly as it was in the past. To start with lets take a look at the few Pokemon related events that have taken place this last week...

Jirachi at Gamestop

First off it was announced that Gamestop in the US will be distributing Jirachi to Diamond, Pearl and Platinum games from February 27th to Match 13th. The Jirachi will know Wish, Confusion, Rest and a special move, Draco Meteor. It will be Level 5 and holding a Leichi Berry, the nature as always will be randomly chosen. When this Jirachi is transferred to the PokeWalker in HeartGold and SoulSilver, a new Night Sky PokeWalker course will be unlocked.

Pikachu Coloured Pichu is currently being distributed in the US until February 14th at Gamestop. When transferred to HeartGold or SoulSilver, this Pichu unlocks a special and exclusive Spiky Eared Pichu event in Ilex Forest.

Deoxys Event in Ranger 3

The official Japanese Pokemon site have revealed that the special Jirachi mission available in Pokemon Ranger: Tracks of Light must be completed with two players via local wireless. So if you want this Deoxys you'll need to find a friend with a DS and the game before you can attempt to capture it. The Deoxys can then be sent to Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold or SoulSilver.

New Pokemon RPG for 2010

The official Japanese Pokemon site has announced that a new Pokemon RPG will be released on the Nintendo DS this year in Japan. The game will be developed by GameFreak which means it is a main stream game and it will be different from anything released in the past, thus it is most likely a 5th generation game with updated game play and a new graphics. Hopefully these new games receive a big enough update considering they'll be on the same console as their predecessor, Gold and Silver were a big improvement from Red and Blue and they all could be played on the original Gameboy system so there is still hope. This Sunday in Japan, the Director of GameFreak will be revealing a new secret on the Pokemon Sunday variety show, could it be the first details about this new game?

Kotone's English Name Revealed!

Kotone, the female protagonist from Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver will be guest staring in a Pokemon anime episode this week in the US and Pokemon.com have revealed her English name while promoting the episode. Kotone will hence forth be known as Lyra, Lyra is the name of a stringed musical instrument and has a very similar meaning to that of her Japanese name.
