This subject is tough, but i will do my best to convey to you what i see from my perspective. First, when i was growing up i always heard that the he restraining was the Holy Spirit. Recently though I have heard some other interpretations to this, that maybe it is referring to the church as the restainer and that we are raptured and that is what allows the antichrist to be revealed. Finally I heard one more interpretation that the he is actually written in the greek gender neutral form here so the he here is really not a he at all, so this sent me on a journey of study to see what the LORD would allow me to see. I acquired a Hebrew, Greek to English interlinear bible with the original text and literal translations in it. The translation below is an Enlish standard version i am using it because in was the closest to the original online that i could find, but interestingly enough all translations except the one i purchased have left out a very important word, which we will get to later. I will highlight reference subjects in green (for go,or refer back to) and each time a questionable subject appears it will be in red (stop and go back to green before it ).

11 Thessalonians 2

1Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.5Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?6And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.9The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,10and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.11Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false,12in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

1. In verse one it says concerning; this means anything following this statement is in reference to this statement.

2. The he can not be the Holy Spirit or the Church because if HE is removed we will be removed with HIM because HE dwells in us, and the reference verse clearly states that this day(event) will not happen until the day of rebellion and the antichrist is revealed first (the and and first are very important inclusive words). Do you see what HIS word is saying here, the rebellion and the antichrist must be revealed first.

3. The he who restrains also can not be the Holy Spirit or the Church because the Holy Spirit is a HE, the Church is a She and the he in the verse is written in neutral form in the greek that means it is neither a he nor a she but a what, which, etc... something not someone.

4. Now with all of this in mind we can go on down to the next green and red text, we should see a better interpretation developing even with the missing word i was talking about at the first. You can see that he will be revealed in his time.

6And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.

5. the word missing in all translations is midst ( means division, in the middle of, in between). in fact let me type the literal translation down

11 thessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness already is working, only he holding back now, until it comes out of the midst.

Now lets go to Daniel 9:27

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make [it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Now I hope that you may see a better way to look at this scripture; is the thing (he, it, which, what) that is restraining is actually GOD's time clock, just as Jesus came in the fullness of time likewise these other events will not take place until GOD's rolex says it is time. I will highlight words of interest in red. I hope and pray that this comparative study enlightens you as it has me. In your translation trumpet in Exodus might be a rams horn, but in the time this was recorded a rams horn was a trumpet.

Exodus 19: 9 And the Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever."So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.10 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. 11 And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12 You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, 'Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.' When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come near the mountain."14 So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes. 15 And he said to the people, "Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives."16 Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and [fn1] the whole mountain quaked greatly. 19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice. 20 Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.

Now lets continue with Matthew 24,

Matthew 24: 29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

and now to 1st Corinthians,

1 Corinthians 15: 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a [fn7] mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-- 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

and now to 1st Thessalonians,

1 Thessalonians 4: 13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who [fn2] sleep in Jesus.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

and the final Trumpet in GOD's word we will go to Revelation,

Revelation 10: 1 I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire. 2 He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3 and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices. 4 Now when the seven thunders [fn1] uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying [fn2] to me, "Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them." 5 The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised up his [fn3] hand to heaven 6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer, 7 but in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.

Wow, how great is HIS word? There is a lot we can get from these scriptures.

1. He is never changing the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, as HE descended this first time to meet with the children of Israel, likewise HE will descend again to gather HIS spiritual children to HIM.

2. HE is GOD, the one and only true King of all Kings, and HIS coming will be hearlded by awesome events; lightenings, thunderings, great earthquakes, a great cloud, a loud voice of an archangel and a trumpet.

3. Last but certainly not least, in Exodus HE told Moses to consecrate the children of Israel, before the LORD would come to talk to them and they could only approach the mountain but not touch it or they would die. Now who did the same thing for us that upon HIS return we can be gathered unto HIM and not die but have everlasting life?

One of the only times GOD actually said to test HIM is in Malachi 3. Read below first and then we will continue.

MALACHI 3

8 "Will a man rob God?

Yet you have robbed Me!

But you say,

'In what way have we robbed You?'

In tithes and offerings.

9 You are cursed with a curse,

For you have robbed Me,

Even this whole nation.

10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,

That there may be food in My house,

And try Me now in this,"

Says the Lord of hosts,

"If I will not open for you the windows of heaven

And pour out for you such blessing

That there will not be room enough to receive it.

11 "And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,

So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,

Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,"

Says the Lord of hosts;

12 And all nations will call you blessed,

For you will be a delightful land,"

Says the Lord of hosts.

Notice HE said all the tithes ( not just money but everything HE has blessed us with, time, talents, and treasure) also look at the promise HE has made if we will do this (look from a spiritual view not just a temporal one) Do you see HIM rebuking satan, and increasing our (spiritual) fruit and that this extends beyond just you and me but unto an entire Nation (land)

Now lets look and see if we see a tithe from Abraham in this scripture.

GENESIS 18

18Then the Lord appeared to him by [fn1] the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day. 2 So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, 3 and said, "My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. 4 Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5 And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant."

They said, "Do as you have said."

Do you see how selflesh he was towards the Angel of the LORD and the other two angels. He was offering his time, his water, his food, and even the shade of his tree. *Interestingly enough this is the first mention of feet being washed in the Bible. Now lets put these two together in John 13 and you should see that Christ did exactly what GOD promised in Malachi

John 13

Jesus Washes the Disciples' Feet

13Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

2 And [fn1] supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, "Lord, are You washing my feet?"

7 Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this."

8 Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet!"

Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."

9 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!"

10 Jesus said to him, "He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you." 11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, "You are not all clean."

12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

We that are now in Christ have become the Church, Abrahams spiritual decedents and now you should be able to see that Christ did much more for us than Abraham did for HIM. Christ not only has washed us entirely but feeds us daily from HIS word and Holy Spirit, Gives us all shade under HIS wings, and much, much, much, more.

Some things you just can not grasp fully until it is time. It does not matter how many times you here a preacher or a teacher teach on a certain subject, the light bulb just does not turn on until it is time. I was studying today on spiritual warfare and the LORD gave me one of those light bulb moments when it came to trying to understand HIS delegated authority HE has given us in HIM. We see it all the time ; dear brothers and sisters being defeated and down troden, hey i fall in this category to and sometimes more than often so this was a real personal moment when HE showed me this in study and lifted me up; so here it is and i hope and pray this helps someone else. (PICTURE) Christ is the head and we are the body of Christ , now where have all things been placed because of what Christ has done,, below HIS feet; so all things because of HIM and by HIS authority are likewise below us. So the next time the world, our flesh or the enemy is coming up against us let's try to remember where HE has placed these things by HIS authority, beneath us.

Heb 2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing [that is] not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

Eph 2:6 And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus:

An interesting fact about gold. It is almost twice as heavy as lead, and as it travels down a stream it ends up sinking to the deepest places in cracks, crevices and finally stopping its deep journey when it reachs bed rock or some obstacle that will not let it go any further down. GOD's most deep secrets are like this hiding in the deepest reaches of HIS word and like gold prospecting it takes time, effort, tools and knowledge to reach them. In physical prospecting the most basic tools are a shovel for loading gold bearing material in the gold pan, a gold pan itself, an area that has gold and the knowledge of what to look for and how to use the pan. In the spiritual realm we have the area ( HIS word) the knowledge (given by HIS Spirit) The pan is( meditation) and the shovel is (our determination). You see we take HIS word and study it and this is shoveling into the pan, then we wash the gold bearing material in the pan and as we work it down to concentrates we get little truths(little flashes in the pan)(from HIS Spirit) as we go, then with meditaion or more panning the heavier material (HIS deep secrets) are finally revealed(by HIS Spirit) at the bottom of the pan, because this is where the heaviest materials have been worked down to. The great thing about prospecting in the Spiritual realm is that GOD's word is the most productive gold mine that has ever been or will ever be. There is not one crack or crevice in HIS word that will not reveal treasure if we will spend the time effort and meditaion in it. HIS knowledge and understanding is the gold and silver of HIS word,

Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

Hag 2:6 ¶ For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it [is] a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];

Hag 2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

Hag 2:8 The silver [is] mine, and the gold [is] mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

Hag 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

I do not believe GOD is just staking a preverbial claim here, what I believe HE is saying is all the treasures worth having are HIS.

And we know that we are adopted heirs by way of Christ Jesus, so what i am getting at here is in this final passage

Matt 7:7 (nice numbers) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

In the original greek text the ask, seek, knock here is in the continual state; literally it means to keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. in other words (keep washing the material in the pan until the treasure is revealed), and then when that pan is done shovel some more in and pan some more.

So i will leave you with this, keep on mining in HIS word and may the bottom of your pan turn to gold, spiritually speeking.

It is treasure hunting,; which includes rock hounding which was the previous blog part 1, also metal detecting and gold prospecting. Part 2 is about detecting.

In metal detecting there are some prerequisites and some rules. First you have to have a detector appropiate for what you are looking for, also something to dig with, knowledge of how the detector works and knowledge of the history of the area you are searching. (You have to be equipped with tools, knowledge a fertle hunting ground and the researching of it)

In searching for hidden treasures of GOD likewise there are prerequisites and rules. You have to have the Holy Spirit to reveal those treasures to you and in order to have the Holy Spirit you must be born again. GOD will not reveal HIS deep secrets to those that are not born again. He will only speak to them about salvation. HIS word says that nonbelievers are spiritually discerned to HIS word. True they might get some of the surface truths like finding coins on top of the ground without a detector but they will never understand the deep treasures until they are born again. So the Holy Spirit is like GOD's detector and HIS hands on the shovel ( which is us) guiding us where to dig, and the fertile ground is HIS word, and to research HIS word is studying and meditating not just reading.

A metal detector is constantly sending a magnectic signal down and receiving it back in the coil, when it goes over a metallic object it brakes the signal going down and sends the new signal back up. It is basically telling you to stop and dig.

Likewise when the Holy Spirit reveals something new to us in scripture HE is telling us to stop, and meditate(dig deeper) on this new truth because this is where we are at in this moment in life.

A very important rule in metal detecting is when you find something do not fill the hole back in until you have checked it again, because there could be a more valuable treasure down below the original signal. You see silver and gold coins are usually deeper becasuse of the length of time they have been in the ground and silver and gold are generally heavier than zinc, copper and nickel coins.

Likewise when the Holy Spirit reveals something new to us in scripture we should meditate more because the better treasures of HIS are even deeper.

There is a saying that i like. It has a double meaning. The deeper you dig the deeper the hole gets. In the physical world this is plain to see that the deeper you dig the deeper the hole gets, but it is Spiritually true also because the deeper you dig in HIS word the more priceless HIS treasures become and the deeper you go with HIM the more you realize the less you knew about HIM.
