Icy Tower is a senseless game. You're stuck in a well, and all that you have to do is to keep jumping upwards. As time passes, the screen will keep scrolling upwards, so you have to keep jumping just to stay in the same spot. If you drop out of the screen, it's game over. There is no end to the game except falling out of the screen. You'll always see the light coming from the top of the well, but you're never going to reach it. You just keep jumping up and up and up to nothing. The only thing keeping you alive is the fear of death. At least that's the reason until you discover a better name for it.

There are several ways to maximize your score. One is to achieve a high jump combo. Or you could diligently jump floor by floor upwards. These are not mutually exclusive and both should be employed to maximize your score. It is naive to expect to achieve a high score from combos alone. It's disappointing to see your jump combo broken. Could you have done better? Is it worth trying to achieve a high jump combo if all that you do is to break it in the end? How much of a jump combo is good enough? Are you competing for nothing? Where's the excitement in jumping floor by floor? If your combo must fail in the end, for there can be no infinity, should you even try?

A long term strategy would be to keep jumping, trying to do a combo whenever possible. If you fail, try again. You'll get another chance as long as you don't fall out of the screen. If you continue long enough, hopefully you'll be able to achieve a combo that is better than the previous one. When you keep your mind on this, the fear of death becomes secondary to your new goal of trying to reach a higher score. But are you trying to deceive yourself into finding meaning to nothing?

There's another entirely different option, and that is to never start jumping. If you remain at the bottom of the well, the screen will not start scrolling, so you'll never die. It's quite a defeatist option...or is it? After all, there's no end to the jumping but death sooner or later. It could be argued that what matters is the process and not the end, but what if the process is equally senseless?

I read in Sunday's Straits Times that Lee Wei Ling, daughter of Lee Kuan Yew, skipped her breakfast and lunch when she was in Toronto sometime around 1992. Which meant she only had dinner. Impressive, my stomach wouldn't have allowed for that. Anyway, the reason I'm mentioning this is because she mentioned that she would exercise and burn about 1200 calories daily in the mornings. If she only has dinner and burns 1200 calories, and assuming her daily caloric requirement is about 1500-2000, wouldn't that mean that her dinner alone would have been nearly 3000 calories?! That's just slightly less than 3 upsized Big Mac meals in a night! Hmmm maybe she snacks haha.

And a journalist from Straits Times referred to Chinese nationals as "China nationals". Isn't that grammatically incorrect? Obviously my grammar isn't the best but then that's Straits Times leh. It's akin to saying "America nationals"?

Teachers' Day celebration was not too bad. I'm just wondering how politically correct we should be. The emcee mentioned "what if a Pakistani terrorist appeared in VJC." It would be kind of sad if I were a Pakistani, an innocent one.

Prelims start off on wednesday with GP but my GP is totally screwed right now. And nope, I haven't forgotten about my other subjects, they are equally hopeless. Good luck everyone...

I got a new phone on sunday. I chose the Nokia 1661 because it was quite cheap but didn't look too cheapo haha. More importantly it doesn't have a camera so I can bring it into the army. It doesn't even have internet, even my phone that I had 5 years ago had it lol. But I don't use it anyway.

CT2s have been really bad, I'm just hoping I don't have a single U, but I wish I could at least get an E for all my subjects. But looking at chem and bio I think I should just forget it.

Went crabfishing with Sing Ee and Jieming the friday just before school reopened, so that's abotu half a month ago lol but I'm going to post the pictures today. It was really hot and it was a really really long walk because Sing Ee is used to taking the car into that area. In the end it 0 crabs were caught haha since the tide was already quite high by the time we reached. I come home then my father say you want to go catch crabs just go Sengkang the river so many crabs no need go until Punggol. It wasn't my idea haha. But it was still fun lah...taking pictures. And my slippers actually survived the treacherous rocks along the river. Muahahah to think Sing Ee needed his PCK boots. Then again I got a few cuts on my foot. In the first place i was expecting to be on mudflats so I wore something that could be washed easily.

My phone's spoilt. The touchstrip doesn't work so I can't access the Menu/sms etc. All I can do is call lol. So now I'm using my sis's old phone, which can sms but can't really call because it it automatically breaks calls up after a few seconds plus a keypad that isn't really sensitive so I've got to press quite hard sometimes. And it's pink! Haha...ok it's not totally pink it's like with some peach and cream colour and deep blue. But it's still very pink lol. I can't believe this is happening to me.

Anyway I was playing the piano and someone came and knocked on my door and she was selling those tapioca chips and assorted crackers. Now I'm feeling quite guilty for not buying from her cos I mean she doesn't look well-to-do and if I bought it it might just make her day maybe. It's not pity really it's just that I see so inequality everywhere I look and I'm really quite sick of it. When I grow up I want to have a one-year sabbatical to do some volunteer/humanitarian work. I may not make the whole a better place significantly but I can at least I tried. And the lady got me inspired so I composed(somewhat randomly) a song but I only got a nice introduction and the rest is just impromptu.

Good luck for the exams!

I attended 3 CIPs last week and actually I had signed up for one today as well but I decided to cancel it since I don't think I have enough time to study(+slack) haha.

Monday was Paint Out Loud! at Kovan where we painted this container block where youths hang out. Filbert got really painted lol while I was relatively unscathed.

Filbert in this emo lunch shot. I wanted to make it more emo-looking but then the paint stains wouldn't be as obvious haha.

Saturday was Bare Your Sole at Pasir Ris Park. I woke up just past 5am because we had to reach at 6am! So Sing Ee's father kindly fetched both of us there, but in the end we still reached slightly past the meeting time haha. So me and Singee were both in water deployment which meant carrying the boxes of water here and there and there and here that by the end of the day my arms were like jelly. And Singee perspired like mad really mad.

This is not representative of the scene it was like when I just reached, but then there's no point showing that pic I took cos it's all black lol.

Anwyay Pasir Ris Park's a nice place, I think I prefer it to East Coast Park. It's more like a park and less like a beach that ECP is.

The very next day I went for Accendo Street Sales around Dhoby Ghaut and I raised $78 in 4 hours haha I guess that's not too bad. Coincidentally I saw Kevin after his tuition ended and he donated too haha.

There's a T-Rex just outside the MRT station, it seemed quite out of place but everybody was taking pictures with it.

This year I wasn't expecting to go for as many concerts, but in the end I went for as many as last year, in part due to Ahmad giving me a free ticket haha. In July I'm pretty sure I'll be going for Piano Ensemble's concert as well. Recently I got kind of addicted to playing pop songs on the piano, and I recently figured out Poker Face haha though it's still kind of choppy here and there.

On Thursday after PE I tried to levitate and it was quite successful/convincing haha. I'm going to try it again soon on some unsuspecting people haha.

Anyway I think I'm quite a bit tanner after going to Sentosa but then I need a more even tan damn.

On Saturday me and my mum went over to my brother's house to babysit cos my brother and my sister-in-law decided to have a two-person overnight getaway at Sentosa haha. Then went for the harmonica concert at night before going back to his house for an overnight stay.

On Sunday went to Jalan Besar Stadium with my brother and my nephew to catch a match between Tampines Rovers and an Australian team that Robbie Fowler plays for, but after a long while my brother went to ask and found out that Robbie Fowler wasn't slated to appear so we left half(after half-time)way. The match was unexciting soccer-wise but at least there was some human drama shoving and pushing so I guess it was kind of interesting? Otherwise it was a waste of time and money.

So all that recounting was largely for memory's sake, what's more important is that I have come up with a to-do list for the holidays! Firstly, it is important that things are kept in perspective. Based on my past experiences with to-do lists, all I can say is that I've still got plenty left over from I think maybe even last year lol. But somehow I'm having high hopes for my June 2009 to-do list. The list is not in order of importance, because I'll be completing all of them. <= That's not a promise.

1. Finish watching X-Men Trilogy that I got from my brother. (I'm done with the part one)

2. STUDY!!!!!!! Extra exclamation marks to show that if I don't study this holidays, I can actually forget about studying for the rest of my life.

3. Master(meaning able to play the whole song fluently) a particular piano piece that I've always been playing but never really worked on getting past the fourth page.

4. Buy shoes(I think I've said this a million times). Buy a portable hard disk drive then back up my computer.

5. Random walk around Singapore alone to take photos and not chicken out halfway. (Let's hope I even get started on this one)

6. Exercise seriously. My strength is pathetic I've noticed since I think primary 6.

7. Clear the Notes in my handphone, which are actually lots and lots of to-do stuff. Lots and lots. In fact I've even got leftovers from my previous handphone :X

Good luck to self.

And happy holidays!

The skin at the back of my finger got cut again when I used the back of my fingers to press on the tap. I'm not very fond of pressing taps using the front of my hand so I fully support taps that have those extended knobs where you can push it up from the bottom to turn it on when your hands are still dirty and then after washing your hands pressing it down from the top where it's clean. Regular pushknobs since I'll be using the back of my hands to press it anyway but their metallic surface coatings are often corroded from wear and tear and are less suitable for the skin on the back of the hand.

Yeah so nowadays I like to talk about random stuff...actually always...but just that now I'm penning them down. Full day today for the sports teams winning so many trophies! But it always just leaves the whole school stranded in the canteen not knowing where to go lol. Damn it should be given a day later so that I won't even need to come to school and can sleep in. So in the end Filbert Joshua and me bowled but I got totally pwnzored by them cos I'm the absolute best at landing my ball in the gutters. I can't release the ball properly my wrist always tilts abit.

Then made our way to Joshua's house where we played squash, which was my very first, it's quite an interesting game but then it does seem slightly dangerous cos you could bang into each other or you could at least secretly block him if you wanted. And Joshua's tennis-style serves are quite impossible to return...then we went up to his house and realized that his maid ate some of my Calbee haha. Then we played abit of his piano which has a sound and touch I kind of like and inspired me to practise when I got home lol.

Something to celebrate about is that I got Silver for NAPFA one week after getting Bronze haha I'll take it as a motivation for me to exercise more this June holidays.

Today I will show you all how to remove a straw from a packet drink while ensuring that nothing from your fingers contaminate it! I'll try my best to make it not sound like a Skill A procedure report. For this experiment, you will a need a packet drink that has a bendable straw.

1. Exert pressure on the ridged section of the straw where it is bent to fit into the plastic wrapper. This will allow the sharp end of the straw to pierce the plastic wrapper from the bottom.

2. Using your teeth, bite onto the exposed end of the straw and pull the straw out. While performing this action, hold the packet drink parallel to the direction of your force exerted so that the plastic wrapper will not be torn away from the packet drink. This ensures that you will not have to keep track of where the plastic wrapper is subsequently, so that consumption of the drink as well as disposable is convenient with one article instead of two.

3. With the sharp end of the straw held between your teeth, use your fingers to hold onto to the ridged section of the straw where it bends. Now, release the straw from your teeth's grip. Insert the straw into the packet drink and enjoy! It is imperative that the finger only touches the ridged section because holding the straw too high or too low will result in the contaminants from your fingers entering the drink or your lips/mouth coming into contact with them.

4. Have fun!

Had lunch at Sakae with Samantha and others to celebrate her birthday on Sunday. Waited in Sakae till 3pm before we could have the tea time buffet hahaha.

So my results are out, GP C, Bio E, Econs Chem Maths SSS. Triple S again! Man I'm the worst in class again! I'm really disappointed with Maths I was seriously expecting to pass! And Econs as well it was the only subject I finished studying for (although I was never counting on NIA but I still went to do the essay for it), and I failed. As for Chem, I got nothing to say lol I expected it.

Anyway I went back to visit Anderson Choir yesterday. It's been so long since I went back. Met Anissa at the gate and we went in. The guys were OK, but the girls were quite nice. Since Miss Lim wasn't the one conducting yesterday, I think the standard isn't too bad, though there's still room for improvement. 8 more days to SYF and I really hope they can continue to get Gold with Honours!!! Good luck!!!

And last friday I went to fetch my nephew from school lol cos my father in JB and my brother had important meeting. Lucky that I ended school early or else I wouldn't have been able to make it. Took a taxi to his school, but took a bus back and it's quite cool cos he's 4 years old but then he knows where to take the bus from and where to alight.

JTS was so long ago, but I would like to thank all the juniors who treated us and it was really a nice experience. Thanks!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7940396.stm

The link will bring you to a news article, and click on the first video. It's very cool. You see the seabirds corralling the herring into a giant ball, and you think it's all hard work and determination and just so magnificient. Then this humpback whale comes along, and then he opens his mouth, and then I was like wtf total ownage and then I was quite stunned. So if you would like that experience, click on the link and watch the video please. Really nice, but wait for the advertisement at the beginning.

Yeah so that was all a huge chunk of text, hopefully I'll upload next time with photos that I took recently to make things more interesting...

The past week has been quite slack, plus the weather was quite nice. Jonathan is lame cos he said that LAZH stands for Li'ai Zing fHen lol. And Filbert is even more funny, just ask him how he says 'hihat'. I laughed till I cried for the first time in my life. On the bus somemore lol, luckily I was having abit of a sore throat so not much sound when I laughed. And I have no idae why I keep saying yah whenever Shirleen asks a question though she's not asking me, it's like a reflex.

On wednesday my CCA was at east coast park, and I was walking past this guy who stood around the toilet. He approached me and ask for $10 to take a taxi home cos he lost all his stuff, but then I gave him $2 and asked him to take bus lol. Then he asked for my school etc so that he can return the money to me. But then I say nvm. Then he asked where the nearest bus stop was, but then it was so damn far I didn't really wanna bother explain to him cos I think he will give up walking anyway so I just went errrrr.....lol. Then he say nvm he'll use the money to call his friends. This whole thing was really weird?! Cos now I realized you can take bus with $2 note lol. And, you can't call with $2 note either!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And if he really wanted to call just borrow my handphone right. But nvm $2 only. If he really lost all his stuff I hope he gets them back...

And for the first time in my life, I actually jogged for the sake of jogging/training stamina. Under the blazing friday afternoon sun I ran for over 11min so I guess that's about 2km, and I actually didn't feel like puking like I normally do so it was great! Plus nice wind while I ran. Cross country is next friday and I really dun wanna die.

Anyway fire drill last week, and Joshua looks like he's really into it cos he's giving the "It's hopeless we're all gonna die face" lol.

Anyway ECP photos:

I really like the last one cos it's got the translucent-leaf effect. So from the pictures it's quite obvious the park was quite empty, which I think was because it was so bloody hot. But I like it like that, empty and nice blue sky.
