There Is Light At The End of Every Tunnel

I must agree that there is light at the end of every tunnel. I guess I am going throught one now and although I am not at the end of the tunnel yet, I am beginning to see the light.

Its been a very depressing and agonizing period where my health is concerned to the point where all I see is darkness and pitfalls with no end. The agony that awaits at every consultation with the various doctors and the physical pain of going through the tests... Sometimes I almost think if GOD himself is putting me through the test.

Besides the health issues, there's also issues of the heart and work hasn't been exactly smooth lately with so many unpredicted withdrawals and set-backs. Its blinding, discouraging and even overwhelming at times. Theres so much in these areas that I just cannot write about, but only HE and those closest to me will know.

But I now see relieve as some of my dreams and wishes is starting to unfold before me. I started this site by dedicating my first few blogs to the Concrete Angels of the world - all the children out there who needs some one to reach out to them. I wanted a chance of reaching out to them and being able to do my bit for them.

We had a good talk with Pastor Yeen Fun and Kelly about plans to reach out to latch-key chilldren from lower income family, girls who get pregnant out of wed-lock, children with learning disabilities, etc.. All these kinda helps put my pain away. It has become that light at the end of my tunnel. I am really looking forward to the day that I will be able to do some if not all of the above before my time on earth is up.

Medical Bills and More Medical Bills

Its terrible how much medical bills cost in Singapore. Two medical check-ups and I am about S$2K poorer now.. No wonder all the pricvate doctors are driving big Mercs and Jaguars. They really charge you an arm and a leg for their services...

Imagine this.. I had an operation done at SGH some time back to release my Carpel Syndrome and it costs me under S$1.5K back then. Last week at Raffles Hospital, they quoted me S$4.7K for a similiar operation that I need again. Daylight robbery? What else can it be? So for now, I will go back to SGH for the same operation again..

And to top this up to my already poorer pocket, most of these investigations and procedures cannot be claimed from my medical insurance. The doc suspects that I have Cerivcal Spine disorder and ordered an MRI investigation which cost over S$800. Haiss... Then to think about the coming follow up medical investigations and procedures... Its gonna burn an even bigger hole in my pockets... Urghhhh...

Upbringing and Manners of Children Nowadays

I have always been proud of my little angels, but recent events have really prooved that I was right in doing what I have always done and I am really glad that I had done it the good old fashioned way of instilling manners and values into them whilst they are young and having my doors opened to them at all times. We talk about almost any thing and every thing like a child would with a friend.

May be some will think that I am old fashioned, but I still think that children need to observe some basic manners that were taught to us when we were kids. Haven't our parents always told us how we need to greet our elders and parents friends when we meet them, to always address all at the dinning table with phrases like 'Aunty eat, uncle eat' and to allow an elder start eating before digging into the dish ourselves? And many, many more dos and don'ts? I find all these basic manners beautiful and make the children even more beautiful and gracious.

How often do you see children or even their parents digging away into dishes the moment the waiter places the dish on the table at dinners? How often do we meet our friends and hear them asking their children to address you and be greeted with a reluctant 'hi' that simply shows you how bothered he/she is to have to greet you?

Sadly.... almost all the time... At times I even felt sad for those children when their parents say 'Why you never call all the aunties and uncles to eat? See.... Claire or Bernice got call people'. Doesn't it occur to them that it is their fault for not injecting these values into their children earlier.

Another thing that has made me really proud and happy.... Bernice. She is in Sec 4 now and doing her O lvls this year. Most teenagers her age don't know what they wanna do or where they wanna go after their O levels, but she does. Although I would have preferred her to go to the JCs, she has decided that she wanna go to the Polytechnic and study Mass Communication or Psychology. But.... I am still glad that she has made her choice. As a mother, we should be there to give guidiance and help them make their choices, not to force them with what we want. And I am sure that she is right with her choices - she has always had a passion for writing and is even writing for the SPH's Youth IN papers now. She should pursue her passion...
